Ben Affleck revealed to the press this week that he’s completed an alcohol rehab programme. The rehab programme was completed in secrecy away from the World’s cameras. This stint in rehab is not Ben’s first, but we all hope this will be his last.
Ben has struggled with alcoholism for many years. Ben first spent time in rehab back in 2001.
Ben’s wife, Jennifer Garner, has supported Ben throughout. Ben is also fortunate enough to have on hand a supportive family. Ben admits he is ‘lucky’ to have access to this much-appreciated support.
Writing on his personal Facebook account, Ben said: “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront.
"I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.
"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."
At Rehab 4 Alcoholism, we strongly agree that it’s important to realise that help is out there. Reaching out for help significantly eases the process of getting in recovery. In fact, many people are simply unable to get into recovery without professional help.
Ben has been away from the limelight since the Oscars aired back in February. At the Oscars, Ben presented an award with Matt Damon.
Ben returned to rehab shortly following the Oscars, so he checked in around February 2017.
The alarm bells rang about Ben’s alcoholism back in June 2016 when Ben took part in an interview with HBO’s Any Given Wednesday. During the interview, Ben appears to be under the influence of alcohol.

During the interview, Ben uses very colourful language, so be prepared when you watch the actual video as some may be offended by Ben’s uses of words. Ben also slurs his speech in a way that indicates he is drunk.
Many of Ben’s fans took to Twitter and Facebook to accuse him of “sweating vodka”. Ben did not confirm whether or not he was drunk during the interview.
In 2012, Ben opened up about his previous stint in rehab when he said: "I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be."
"It was more a 'let me get myself straight,' before it became a rite of passage."
Ben’s father also suffered from alcoholism. Ben says going to rehab was a “pre-emptive strike” to break the chain of alcoholism within his family.
Ben and his wife Jennifer had been separated for a year due to Ben’s drinking. However, now Ben has sought help for his addiction, his wife has returned to his side.
The couple has three children together.
